The Central 70 Project is a $1.2 billion reworking of I-70. The project will:

• Reconstruct and widen I-70 from Brighton Boulevard to I-270

• Remove the viaduct and lower the interstate between Brighton and Colorado Boulevards

• Build a new 4-acre park over the interstate between Clayton and Columbine Streets

4,285 jobs will be created during the construction of the Central 70 Project. The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is working to maximize the economic benefits of the Central 70 project and has received special permission from the Federal Highway Administration to pilot local (geographic-based) hiring.

LIUNA is engaging CDOT to make sure current Local 720 members that live in the highlighted area get work on the I-70 project.

A decision on the contractors that will build the project is expected this summer and construction is expected to start in early 2018.
